Youth Coaching
North Devon Velo offers a range of opportunities for junior and youth riders to participate in cycling
At North Devon Velo, we are committed to supporting the next generation of cyclists through our comprehensive youth coaching offering. Our sessions On Saturday mornings and Monday nights are designed to provide young riders with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to enjoy and succeed in the sport of cycling.
Our volunteer coaches are experts in their field and bring a wide range of experience to our coached sessions that benefit youth riders. We fully support youth riders to guide them through British Cycling’s programme for the development of their talent and skills, if they want to go down that route.
We understand not everyone wants to race. Some people just like being outside in the fresh air on their bicycle. If you are a youth rider unsure of your ability, or just want to ride a bike for a healthy lifestyle, NDV can help you make the most of the sport. It’s not all about winning and racing, but taking part in sessions and events that bring people together.
North Devon Velo is working closely with British Cycling to set up cluster sessions to work with other Sport England accredited bicycle clubs to deliver better, more useful sessions that enable youth riders to train with other clubs in the area.
The youth section meets weekly on a Saturday morning at different locations to train in MTB, Road and Cyclocross riding.
NDV strictly abides to the British Cycling Safeguarding and Protecting Children Policy when running sessions for youth riders. However, if you have any further questions, please get in contact via the form below.
We believe that cycling is not just a sport, but a way of life, and we strive to instil a love of cycling in all of our riders.

Youth Riders on Public Road Sessions
The club asks that:
At any time when an Under 16 rider is present on a NDV organised public road ride/session (primaily Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday); the parents/guardians of that rider are required to be contactable and are available to pick up their child in the event that they cannot continue the advertised ride.
This will be required for the duration of the session should contact between club and parent need to be established.
A form for youth riders out on public roads under NDV organised sessions can be found here: NDV Youth Riders on Public Roads
The form, upon completion, can be emailed to info@northdevonvelo.com or handed to one of the ride organsers for discussion on the rider’s bespoke requirements.
The club routes will be posted on the North Devon Velo Facebook page. We politely ask if an a parent/guardian can comment or indicate that their child will be attending the ride, so that we can ensure there are responsible adults on the ride to ensure the safeguarding of the child. Ideally, we would ask if the parent/guardian could accompany their child on their first ride with us, but we fully understand that is not always possible.
